Basic Info:

Handball Court

Team Handball is played by 19 million players in 150 countries and is an emerging Olympic sport in the United States. A combination of Soccer, Basketball, and Water Polo, Team Handball is played with 6 court players and a goalie on a court slightly larger than a basketball court. With two 30 minutes halves, each team’s main objective is to score by throwing the ball into the goal.

At the end of the try-outs, the best athletes will be invited to participate in the full-time Residency Program.

Athletes joining our program will train year round and play in the
Quebec League and the Northeast Team Handball Conference to prepare for competition on the world level. Players have the opportunity to take classes at local colleges such as SUNY Cortland, Ithaca College, Tompkins Cortland Community College, Cornell University and Syracuse University. Non-students will be provided assistance in off-campus housing and job placement. Players also may be eligible for Elite Athlete Health Insurance from the United States Olympic Committee through USA Team Handball.

Requirements:

We are looking for outstanding athletes who are willing to work hard and have fun learning to play Team Handball. Women currently participating in collegiate or high school athletics are encouraged to try-out. No Team Handball experience is necessary. The flexibility of USA Team Handball allows you to participate year round in multiple sports, work and go to school. This may be an opportunity for senior athletes, or non-varsity athletes to continue their athletic careers and live their Olympic dream! The try-out fee is $250, which includes membership in the USA Team Handball Federation, lodging, meals and two t-shirts. After receiving your application, you may be sent an official invitation to try-out. If you qualify, you will need to provide a copy of your health insurance card and a check covering the cost of the try-out (payable to USA Team Handball) to guarantee a spot at the try-out.
