PT, DPT, SCS, ATC Dave Boyland is the Director of Athletic Training and Rehabilitation for the USA Team Handball Women's National Team. He is a Board Certified Clinical Specialist in Sports Physical Therapy with over 15 years clinical/teaching experience in physical therapy and over 25 years in athletic training. He has served as a member of Athlete's Medical Staff at the 1996 Summer Olympic Games in Atlanta, GA. He has been a member of the athletic training staff for the Empire State Games twelve times over the past twenty-one years. He has provided athletic training and physical therapy services to athletes at the high school, collegiate Division I and III, professional, and elite level.Dave received a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from the University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences in the Fall of 2006. He also holds a Master of Science degree in physical education from Eastern Illinois University and Bachelor of Science degrees in physical therapy from SUNY Health Science Center at Syracuse (now SUNY Upstate Medical University) and physical education from Canisius College. He teaches physical therapy part-time at SUNY Upstate Medical University in the areas of movement analysis of the extremities and spine, therapeutic interventions, sports physical therapy, and wellness. He has been an invited speaker at regional sports medicine conferences for the past sixteen years. His research interests are in the area of orthopedics and wellness.
His 25 years of athletic training experience have included extensive service to men's and women's sports including ice hockey, football, soccer, basketball, field hockey and volleyball teams. He has provided athletic training services at Canisius College, Eastern Illinois University, United States Coast Guard Academy, SUNY Cortland, Cazenovia and Homer High Schools. He has developed a reputation as an advocate for the care of the athlete at all levels and is highly respected by athletes, parents, coaches, peers, administrators, and physicians throughout the Northeast.
Dave is a co-owner of Goldwyn and Boyland Physical Therapy in Cortland, NY. The practice has excelled in providing the latest and most advanced physical therapy services for over 30 years. Most recently, advances in functional movement assessment and exercise prescription have been added to the comprehensive physical therapy services. These functional movement principles serve as the basis for the rehabilitation services provided to the athletes of the USA Team Handball Women's National Team. In addition, Greg Streblow and Ehren Heyer of Goldwyn and Boyland Physical Therapy are responsible for utilizing these same advances for developing comprehensive warm-up, strength training, and movement development programs for the team. The collaboration of the athletic training, strength and conditioning, and coaching staff provide a unique formula that should serve the athletes of USA Team Handball Women's National Team as they set their sights on Olympic success. |
